Ronald McDonald does not make kids fat, parents make kids fat. Unless there are some seriously creepy issues going on, Ronald McDonald did not take your child to a fast food store & buy them snacks. He did not make it so your child didn’t exercise. He also did not force your child to make unhealthy choices off of the menu instead of practical ones. Parents did that.
Is it their fault that their child is fat? Yes. Is it completely their fault? Possibly. Let’s look at this logically. Yes, if you allow your child to eat nutritionally poor food & then don’t get them active then you suck. You suck as a parent. I shall call you the Dursleys right now. In fact, you’d be better off shoving your child in a cupboard under your stairs because apparently they’ll grow up to be a ‘reedeeming person’ or whatever. That being said, it is also not completely the parents fault either.This is what it boils down to: want kids to not be fat? Fix the damn economy. I know what many of you are thinking right now: ‘why the hell haven’t you posted in months?’ Answer: I do whatever the hell I want. Move the hell on. You might also be thinking ‘what does the economy have to do with anything’? Or ‘why do you care?’ Or ‘how are you so damn goodlooking?’ The answers are as follows: everything, because and stop hitting on me.
I’m going to take a moment to point out that people make it seem as though fast food is the devil. I’ve met the devil, he is not a mcflurry. This is why your stupid society has so many obesity issues, because people can’t understand that it is not the food that leads to obsesity, it’s the lifestyle. If someone wants to eat a hamburger and fries that will not make them fat. If they eat ONLY hamburgers and don’t get off their lazy asses ever THAT is the problem. It’s an activity issue. McDonalds offers plenty of food that isn’t terrible for you. It’s the people who act like they’ve been ‘full-body-binded’ to their couches that are the real issue.
That being said, people buy McDonalds (and other fast food brands which don’t have as recognizable ‘mascots’) because they are fast and cheap. They are fast because they are cheap. They are cheap because people are willing to settle for lower quality food because they can’t afford anything else. Want to fix obesity issues? Fix the economy. Make it so people can afford better food. Find ways to get them active. I recommend getting them to run. This will work out in future when either 1. they are chasing others in the name of evil or 2. they are fleeing for their lives because they foolishly didn’t pick team evil. It’s not right to say a clown is manipulating the children. They are children. They do whatever Justin Bieber tells them to because they are fools. It is up to parents to point out that Bieber’s hair looks ridiculous & tell them to shup up during car singalongs. That being said, if the only way they can feed their child is by picking the cheapest options that’s what they’re going to do. Ronald isn’t the issue. Your stupid economy is. Fix it & shut up with the clown. Sidenote: redheads… ew.

I have worked at a McDonald’s.
I have seen parents allow their kid to order a quarter pounder cheeseburger, large fries, a McFlurry, and a chocolate shake, then ask me if that can be a Happy Meal so little precious can still get a toy and a free ice cream.
then that same parent will ask for a salad for themselves.

I work at an ice cream shop and witness people buying their kids two-or-three-scoop dishes of our highest fat ice cream (due to a high cream content), but they’ll get fat free frozen yogurt for themselves. I also witnessed children cry and scream unless they get a hot fudge sundae.

I am amazed by your insight, but fast food is not the cheapest way to eat – home cooking is usually cheaper (but it takes time and practice, or house-elves). Sadly neither health nor the own children seem to be worth the effort.
If fast food would be the cheapest way to eat, the Weasleys would look like redheaded Dursleys.
Fast food is of course the cheapest way to make “food” and to earn a lot of money…
but when people are willing to buy this rubbish it’s they’re fault. One shouldn’t blame the economist who needs the money he earns through this: Children are expensive and he knows it. His children will get better food and education.
I am glad, the muggles will eventually kill themselves – or at least be to slow to even blink an eye before the AK hits them.

Unfortunately, the need for people to hold down maybe two jobs or more and for both parents to constantly be at work just to keep their children somehow fed precludes the time available to create good, home cooked meals. With some prepackaging and non-perishables, it is of course possible to do this (you don’t have to make your pasta from scratch or whatever), but most Muggles have yet to learn how to combine “whatever’s in the fridge” into something tasty to eat in less than an hour.

Fast food is a treat, it was as a kid, yummy fries and burgers, no wait, a toy. I wanted to go there, admittedly I -also- liked going to fancy restraunts that served healthier foods as well. The problem is, as a one working parent family struggling between lower->middle class we couldn’t afford fancy restraunts all that much, so the ‘meal out’ became almost defaulted to McDonalds.
The argument becomes that when the only viable economic choice for the family meal out is McDonalds, we’d prefer it to be healthier or enforce health better so those families who want to treat their children but can’t do it in a better locale still get better nutrition.

Depending on where you live in the world (ie. USA) it is actually cheaper to go to McDonalds and get food there. That’s why the problem lies with the economy, they are making so you must have money to lead a healthy life.
But yes, for the most part it is still cheaper to go to the grocery store and make a home-cooked meal.

There is no or limited access to quality food choices and fresh produce. For many people fast food is the only solution that doesn’t involve a bus or train. (And don’t get me started on America’s lack of mass transit)

While I agree with 90% of what you said, I think YES it is a lifestyle problem, and PARTLY an economic problem. Yes fast food are the cheapest… RESTAURANTS! They still don’t beat eating at home. And while I agree that quality food is expensive, it is still cheaper and healthier to buy lower quality food in a supermarket than have a Big Mac and fries everyday.
Still it is the parents’ fault mostly, not the fast food.

I guess that makes me a bad parent. I have three children. Two are very fit and healthy while one has had weight problems for years. We enrolled her in sports, but let her quit when the first graders made fun of her because they could swim faster than this fourth grader. We signed her up for soccer, but let her quit when she complained about not wanting to go to every practice. Basketball-she hung in for a little while but quit too. She wasn’t always fat; she put on weight after having a surgery where she quit eating, lost weight, then suddenly started gaining a lot of weight.
We banned Cokes from the house, but later found out a friend’s mother was feeding her crap when she’d go over there all the time. I’d cook fish. She wouldn’t eat it. We went to McDonalds (until we saw the movie Super Size) and let her get kid’s meals every now and then but also went to Subway. Next I knew, I was the mother of a fat kid. I guess that makes me a bad parent. I wish we could have done something differently with her, but I’m not sure what. She naturally hated healthy foods and physical activity from an early age. Both my husband and I are runners.

In all honesty, yes, some of the things you mentioned do make you a bad parent.
I know theres a naturally given aversion against physical activity (I absolutely hate sports) but there is no such thing for healthy food. This is clearly a learned habit.
If you are only used to having fast food (and Subway absolutely IS fast food) you “naturally” dont like “normal” food because you kind of get used to all the stuff that makes fast food taste way more intense than the things you can prepare yourself. But if you give your kid healthy food from the beginning there will be no problem with a kids menu once in a while.
Letting your daughter quit sports because she was made fun of is the right thing to do. She would have developed some kind of hatred against sports if she was forced to continue. But if she just complained about having to go there regularly you really should have made her go on. In most of the cases that’s just a phase.
